2024-2025 Sr. High District Jazz Band Auditions
We are SUPER excited to announce this years Sr. High District Jazz Clinician,
Clarence Johnson III,
Master of Music from the University of New Orleans
Bachelor of Music from Loyola University
Known for his fierce and often sultry saxophone sound and astounding virtuosity, New Orleanean Clarence Johnson III enjoys a successful carreer as a recording and performing artist, an educator, and also appears in films and television.
Johnson has appeared on the recordings of such artists at Tori Amos ("Boys for Pele" WEA, 1996), Bruce Hornsby as part of a tribute to Keith Jarret ("Long as You're Living Yours" RCA, 2000), and Davell Crawford ("The B-3 and Me" Rounder Records, 1998). Johnson's resume also includes past work with the Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Dr. John, members of the Neville Brothers, Allen Toussaint, Jimmy Smith, David "Fathead" Newman, John Scofield, and members of the Meters. Additional he's performed with orchestras that have backed such international acts as Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Kirk Franklin, Gladys Knight, the O'Jays, Billy Preston, and Wynton Marsalis.

Audition date and location: Saturday, January 11, 2025, Location @ Fontainebleau HS
Audition cost: $15 per audition slot, paid through the student's band program. Please contact your student's band director for more information.
Directors, please have one check written for the total number of students auditioning. Checks should be made out to LMEA District IX and mailed to Dan Davis at Slidell High School.

SIGHT-READING - Students will sight-read a short selection as part of their audition.
Drum set players will need to play a one minute funk solo in addition to the prepared pieces.
Interested vocalists will need to prepare to sing over a jazz big band tune recording, preferably a swing tune and ballad.
District Jazz Band Rehearsals/Concert:
If your child is selected as a member of the District IX Sr. High Honor Jazz band, there is a $20 participation fee.

Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Fontainebleau High School Auditorium from 9:00 am to 11:30 am with a concert performance at Noon
