Registration deadline for band directors: November 13th, 2026 (Student deadlines will likely be earlier. Ask your band director if you have questions)

Audition date and location:  Saturday, December 12, 2026 at Madisonville Jr. High.

Audition cost: $15 per audition slot, paid through the student's band program.  Please contact your student's band director for more information.

Fees are sent to Peyton Johnson.  Include School Name and list of students auditioning when sending fees.

Student release forms are sent to Jonathan Lyons at Mandeville Junior.

26-27 HS District Jazz Registration (Directors only)

Audition cost: $15 per instrument audition, paid through the student's band program/booster club. Please contact your student's band director for more information. 

• Directors, please have one check written for the total number of students auditioning. Checks should be made out to LMEA District IX and mailed to Peyton Johnson at Mandeville High School. 

Audition Material

Scales - (Concert Pitch) A Mixolydian, B Dorian, C Whole Tone, F Blues, Eb Blues, G Blues, Chromatic

Drum set players will need to play a one minute funk solo in lieu of Scales

Prepared Material (must audition with practice tracks)

Up-Tempo SWING

Medium Tempo Swing

Blues in F (Play head one chorus, improvise second chorus as written)

SIGHT-READING - Students will sight-read a short selection as part of their audition. 

• Interested vocalists will need to singing two contrasting styles of jazz charts with accompaniment (YouTube video/karaoke tracks)

District Jazz Band Rehearsals/Concert:

• If your child is selected as a member of the District IX Sr. High Honor Jazz band, there is a $20 ensemble fee.

• • Wednesday, February 17, 2027 at Mandeville High School from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

  • Thursday, February 18, 2027 at Mandeville High School from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

  • Saturday, February 20, 2027 at Mandeville High School from 9:00 am to 11:30 am with a concert performance at Noon .

  • Students should wear all black clothes for the rehearsal and performance on Saturday.
