Junior High School Audition Information

Registration deadline for band directors : November 13th, 2026 (Student deadlines will likely be earlier. Ask your band director if you have questions)

Directors: Please send fees to Peyton Johnson at Mandeville High School.   Include School Name and number of students auditioning when sending fees.

Student release forms are sent to Justin Dardenne at Madisonville Junior

26-27 Middle School District Honor Band Registration (Directors only)

Audition date and location: December 12, 2026 at Madisonville Jr. High

Audition cost: $15 per audition slot, paid through the student's band program.  Please contact your student's band director for more information.

Audition Materials

The audition includes scales, prepared material, and sight-reading.  Percussion students will sight-read on both snare and mallets.

Prepared Materials

Middle School and Junior High students will play the following assigned sets for District Honor Band:

• 2026-2027: Set 1 Set 1 District Concert Etudes 

• 2027-2028: Set 2 Set 2 District Concert Etudes

Wind Player Scales: The following scales will be required every year for all Middle School students auditioning for District Honor Concert Band: C Concert, F Concert, Bb Concert, Eb Concert, Ab Concert , G Concert and Chromatic.  Students can choose to play scales from the All-State Scale Sheet or play scales with reduced octave requirements as written on scale sheets below.

Percussion: 3 scales for mallets and 4 rudiments for snare.

• • • 2026-2027 Set 1 Scales:  C, Bb, and Ab Concert Scales (1 octave) Students can choose to perform octave requirements from All-State

    • 2026-2027 Set 1 Rudiments (Open Closed Open): Concert Roll, Rudimental Roll, Flam Tap, and Single Drag Tap Rudiments 

    • 2027-2028 Set 2 Scales:  F, Eb, and G Concert Scales (1 octave). Students can choose to perform octave requirements from All-State

    • 2027-2028 Set 2 Rudiments (Open Closed Open):  Concert Roll, Rudimental Roll, Double Paradiddle, and Flam Accent

Rehearsals and Participation Fees

• If your child is selected as a member of the District IX Jr. High Honor Concert band, there is a $20 participation fee which should be paid through your school.

• Schedule: As a member of this prestigious group your child is expected to be at the following rehearsals:

  • January 8, 2027    6:00pm-8:30 pm                     Pottle Music Building, Southeastern Louisiana University 

  • January 9, 2027    9:00am-4:00 pm                    Pottle Music Building, Southeastern Louisiana University

(lunch break at 11:30)    

• • January 10, 2027   9:00am-Noon  (concert at noon)       Pottle Music Building, Southeastern Louisiana University 

Concert dress is required for all students at this event. Please check with your child's band director(s) for specific dress attire.
